I was mainly producing music directly on computer before, via Cubase SX and Reason 3.
But after listening to my music I had the feeling that something was missing…
As you know all I am mainly using a Roland-MC 909 for crafting music now. Why using this kind of old school tool? Well I guess it helps me to feel more close to the mixing and inspiration.
It’s more inspiring to have a machine than a computer: I found that this MC-909 was the best way for me to make music: and I thank the shop in Tel Aviv where I tried it, to buy the demonstration model in 2008 (this model wasn’t available anymore as a brand new one). While tying it in the shop, I quickly understood how works this machine, and when you have this feeling don’t hesitate to buy this kind of gear! I have spent so many years to try different pieces of gear and I haven’t been as happier as I am now.
I am sure there are many others good gears like Akai’s MPC, and Korg Electribe…
Maybe I will get one of these models one day in order to experiment it. I am still very happy with my MC-909 and this is enough for me in order to translate my thoughts into music.
What I like with a groovebox, is the ability to play your music live everywhere you want, and to create the beat fast with a simple melody!
